I found these comments on a site here in Idaho. I was going to sign up this year with a friend but since finding this we are both unsure. Does anyone know if this is true?? Don't do Mrs. Idaho America!!!!! It is SOOOOOO rigged. I did it last year and the director tells the judges who they want to win and it happens. They also help the person they want to win more than others. It is so obvious and WRONG. It does not bother the people who run this damn thing to take money from the contestants who think it is being run fairly. WHY EVEN HOLD A PAGEANT!! Just crown the one you want it to be and get it over with Mrs. Feely!! Every winner comes from Boise and is a FRIEND of the director. Posted by: Mrs. Idaho America is FIXED! | 08/16/2009 at 06:46 PM

How sad!! I heard that also. I was at the pageant and I did not even think of the lady who won as standing out. Her gown was a spring time dress and she was so youthfully short. Pretty yes but again, friends with Mrs. Idaho 2008 and good friends with the Director. I do believe this pageant is fixed. Don't waste your time. Posted by: It's to bad it is fixed and is to much money to give away when I know it is fixed.- Not worth your time.

I help direct the Mrs Idaho America pageant. We have sat by year after year while someone anonomously attacks us in the voy boards. My daughters and I have been involved in pageants for nearly 20 years with numerous systems. I have seen the best and the worst of the people involved. Say what you like about how we run the pageant but NEVER question our integrity or that of our auditor. We did not know Jamie before the pageant and never discussed who we wanted to win with the judges. Every year the judges are given the same instructions. These are the same instructions that we share with our contestants at workshop! We offer two workshops to our contestants. We also make the same offer to everyone to meet individually with any contestant who ASKS! If a past contestant did not get the help she wanted - then she did not ask! By the way, Jamie did not ask for individual help prior to pageant - therefore she did not receive any. If you wish to speak with any of us directly, we are easy to find and happy to respond to you personally. Sher Finke

Always heard about how Colorado was a huge pageant. I found the crowning on youtube. I LOVE THAT RUNWAY!!!! I think that moment to shine gets missed so much for the Mrs. contestants. Reminds me of my Miss Days. Looks like a fun pageant.

I am happy to add my comments to the integrity of the Mrs. Idaho America Pageant. I was a judge for the 2009 pageant and was so impressed with the organized professional manner in which the pageant was conducted. As a judge we were given instructions to vote for the woman that WE felt would make the best Mrs. Idaho America 2009. In no way were we influenced by the directors of the pageant. The outcome of the pageant totally reflected my scoring as well. Jamie was warm and friendly during her interview. During swimsuit and evening gown competition she showed confidence, poise and beauty. I was very impressed by several ladies in the pageant but Jamie stood out in my professional and personal opinion having judged and directed beauty pageants. I was so impressed by the judging packet presented to us to fairly let each woman shine and let us know them on a personal level. I feel the judging was so fair and well organized that I would like to incorporate many aspects of it into my own pageants. I will be happy to answer any questions as well.

I am so sad that some people have nothing better to do than to harass pageants and their directors or contestants. Directors work very hard to put pageants together for women in their state and yet it seems that when a lady competes and does not win her true spirit gushes out like poisonous vial.

I have been visiting some of the other boards and it seems as if IDAHO has taken a beating for some time now (both systems). This is so sad; both of the state directors are trying really hard to make a name for Idaho. Ladies in Idaho you are truly lucky to have state pageants to compete in. Some states do not have state pageants. You are also lucky to have directors that care so much about pageants.

I can tell you from past experience that being a director does not pay the bills. Pageant directors (most of them) direct because they love pageants and want to see women better themselves.

Ladies who compete in pageants also do not deserve to be down graded for winning or not winning. Each lady has stepped out of her comfort zone to compete in a pageant. We all know that when we sign up for a pageant there can only be ONE winner. If you do not realize this then maybe you should look into another hobby.

I have seen for some time now that pageants are becoming more of a negative than a positive and it is making me very sad. Pageants are my hobby and I use to love being involved but now I am thinking about taking up another hobby. Not that I would be missed in the pageant life, but I just think of the many wonderful ladies out there who have been bashed time and time again. I would really hate to see some of them leave the pageant world. Same goes for directors. I would really hate to lose directors that care so much about the contestants.

As far as “rigging” a pageant, come on! Do you really think that the directors, judges or auditors would jeopardize their name or integrity of their business or daily lives for a pageant? I know as a judge if a director every came to me and said I want xxx to win I would leave right then and there. I would then go to the press about it. I have never heard of a judge going to any press about a rigged pageant have you?

Like I said pageants are a hobby, if you do not like the hobby you are involved in maybe it is time for a change. How about instead of bashing a pageant or contestant we start to find the positive things in pageant again! Remember things we appreciate only get better, thing we depreciate only get worse.

I’ll Never Be Mrs. Idaho America

By Joan Opyr, 9-28-06

As if there weren't enough going on in the world to gag a dog off a gut wagon . . .

A few days ago, I received an invitation from Amanda Feely (call her Mandi!) to enter the Mrs. Idaho America beauty pageant. The rules are simple: fill out and sign the application form, send them a photograph and fifty bucks, and find myself a couple of suckers . . . I mean sponsors. Then, I might, just might, qualify as an entrant. What's the hold up? Well first, although I've been happily married for 14 years, I am not legally married. Under current Idaho law, same-sex couples cannot wed. Second, entrants are required to have been born female. As far as I know, I was born female, but without a genetic test, who can say? Not you, not me, and not the damned fools running this beauty contest.

I wonder: does the female-born-female requirement mean that the intersexed cannot enter? What about XY women? Or XX men? There are XX women and XX men. There are XXX and XXY women. There are enough combinations of X and Y to keep the genetically paranoid busy for weeks. Is Mrs. Idaho America prepared to check DNA at the door? A quick cheek swab and then on to Mrs. Congeniality? Or do we all lift our skirts and hope for the best?

These, according to the brochure, are the putative areas of competition:

Judges Interview: 50%

A panel comprised of God-knows-who will "critique each delegate's ability to communicate, her personality, self-expression, her achievements and her beauty." Wow. Doesn't that sound fun? I wonder if the judges understand the physical language of Tae Kwon Do? Or a Taser? What could be more beautiful, more communicative, more expressively redolent of personality and feminine (feminist) achievement than a good ass-kicking from Aeon Flux? I don't mean to spoil the movie for anyone, but in the end, we learn that Aeon is married. We also learn that she's cloned. Perhaps that's a disqualification.

Evening Gown Competition: 25%

This is true freedom: you get to pick your own dress. In the evenings, I like to wear a pair of bright orange sweatpants and a T-shirt that says The Only Bush I Trust Is My Own. Gentlemen, I'm ready for my close-up!

Physical Fitness and Health: 25%

How do the judges determine this? A treadmill test? A quick jerk and snap? As this is Mrs. Idaho America, how about hefting a baby in one arm and a sack of potatoes in the other? No? Oh. It's a swimsuit competition. Bummer.

Finally, there's a "State Costume Competition," the outcome of which does not effect who wins or loses the pageant. In which case, why bother? I can only guess at what a state costume might be -- a costume that represents Idaho? Do you want to be Lewis or Clark? Or perhaps a tap-dancing baked spud? Our new state quarter features a Peregrine Falcon. Anyone got a bird suit? If not, we might borrow that outfit worn by the mascot of the University of South Carolina's Fighting Gamecocks. USC's unofficial motto, printed on God-fearing Baptist bumperstickers across the state? Nobody can lick our 'Cocks! Judges, this, to me, is exemplary of that winning Mrs. Idaho America spirit. It's communicative, it's expressive, and it sure as hell has got personality.

Too bad I can't enter. Too bad some of the most beautiful women I've ever known -- drag queens, transsexuals, and women with a measurable IQ -- can't enter, either. Somehow, I think we just might represent the State of Idaho with more grace and aplomb than Mandi Feely and the Mrs. Idaho America organizers could ever hope to muster. And, what's more, we could do it without the $500 Sponsor Fee and mandatory $200 Ad Page. Imagine that.

Hi ladies. I posted on another board about and ideal weight for someone who is 5'5" and has a medium bone structure and athletic/muscular build. A lady responded stating that she is 5'10" and a size 4 and is considered too big for pageants. Since I am training for my state Mrs. America pageant, I wanted input from you all. Please help, I can't be a 0, my bones alone are too big, lol.

Hello ladies,
I have been following the boards for a while and I am a veteran Miss pageant competitor. But now after 3 years of marriage I have decided that I would love a chance at my state Mrs. America title.
Just so I can better prepare ...

WHAT WOULD YOU SUGGEST TO DO?
What makes this pageant different from other Mrs. pageants.
Where to do I need to invest my money (i.e. wardrobe, coaching, photos, etc.)
Where can I SAVE money?
I am starting my work out routine today ... and I will be honest, I have never really worked out in my life, so I know this is going to be the greatest challenge for me. Any advice on how I can stay motivated regarding working out. Or an easier way to do it?
ANY Advice is appreciated.

THANK YOU IN ADVANCE LADIES!
