Dear Professor and Mates,
I believe most of grammatical items should be taught discursively but based on our text, there are some items that should be treated at sentence level. Based on our text, they are: determiner-noun agreement; use of gerunds after prepositions;reflexive pronominalization within the clause, some-any suppletion in the environment of negation.
All of these theory are new to me. I've learnt a lot with this course.
I've tried to teach grammar, whenever is possible, in context. Recently I learnt to teach grammar inductively, in spite of the course book uses a deductive way. So, I use the grammar part of it only asking the students to check the rules (after they have already built their own). I found out that this makes a great difference in my students' learning.
I've used short stories and texts with gaps for being filled with a grammatical point and also songs and videos with listening activities for practicing grammar.
About testing grammar I've used texts with gaps too.
That's it!
Sincerely,
Ignês Cecília
