Hey Steve,

Joel and I have an early group of baseball campers at the YMCA Camp this morning so, while Joel is getting himself together I wanted to THANK YOU for giving me information and what my dad and I can find out from our insurance co., too for the speeding ticket I got.

This is embarrassing, I've always been a safe, responsible driver since I got my license and my folks always cared enough to remind me to be careful, etc.

Joel and I were coming home from his grandparents home late Monday night. Joel asked me if i would like to drive as his parents don't want him driving late alot so I said sure. Besides, gives Joel a chance to be chauffered by yours trouble.

Steve, we were not messing around in car, just talking and listening to CD's. I was watching my speed on the road, but when going down a long, long hill area of course a car is going to speed up some coming down the hill.

Hid back away at the bottom of the hill was the cop waiting, he said I was 8-10 mph over the speed limit when he nailed me. I politely said that maybe the speedometer might be off and that I was trying to get used to driving Joel's car when I told him it wasn't my car and I was driving my buddy home because his parents didn't like him driving late at night. The cop was not impressed.

I was polite, Joel was too in respect and I asked the cop if he was going to give me a warning?

"No, young man. I'm afraid you've earned yourself a ticket!" said the cop.

I remained polite and mentioned to him that I was a safe driver and didn't have any traffic ticket record. The cop acted like I committed a crime saying that and mentioned
to me, "well son, you've earned your first one!"

After I was given the ticket, and Joel and I left the area I watched in my mirror and saw the cop pull back up in the hide away area again.

Joel screamed, "SPEED TRAP!" Lucky enough we were down the road away, or I met if the cop heard Joel he would have came after us and read us the "riot act!"

I was so scared Steve, and Joel was too! While waiting to receive the ticket and us talking about what happened on the way home, how mad my dad was going to be with me, and my mom and that I'd probably get punished!

Joel tried to comfort me, and wanted to kick himself for not driving us home. I knew I had to tell my dad, and Joel knew I did too. He told me he would help me tell my dad.

We didn't know what to expect so, Joel said he'd mention if to you and anyone else to see what I could expect to happen for my a ticket fine, what would happen to my car insurance, which I have a separate policy from my parents as I wanted to be responsible and pay for it with my own money, etc. I earn and money I get from my folks sometimes.

I see you suggested that my dad needs to tan my butt while bent over Joel's car.

That scene entered my mind, and I knew if it happened I would not complain to my dad.

Last night at my house after my dad got home from work I told my dad what happened and Joel helped me tell him. I told my dad that Joel and I were not messing or horsing around and I tried to be responsible in my driving us home, that cop just happened to be there as I was coming down the hill and I was speeding faster then the limit 8-10mph.

Joel helped and screamed to my dad, "SPEED TRAP!" and my dad was not as angry as I thought he would be, and understanding. Even though he was, I know I was shaking some and Joel was too, and I told my dad I hoped he was not too disppointed in me and I wished I come make it up to him if he was in me.

My dad told me I would take responsibilty, pay for the ticket and any increase in car insurance, if any. I have to call the police station of the cop to see how much the fine is, and will today.

I told my dad I sure wanted to have a good driving record and now this had to happen, and I was sincere when I said it to him and he believed me.

Joel told my dad maybe he should check with his grandpa and see if that cop and police dept. setup and have a speed trap there at that location. If they do, they got a racket to make money quick off of people, but of course Joel isn't going to call the police up and tell them that, at least he better not!

I told my dad I sure felt sick about this, and I asked him if I was going to get punished? My dad asked me what I thought about it. I told him maybe I should, but then I owed up to what happened, but then if that cop is running a speed trap of people coming down the hill to fast!

My dad said he should let me off, no punishment, and would I be satisfied? I told him, I sure feel funny and think still something should happen, not that I really needed to get a punishment. I can't believe what I said next to my dad, that maybe he could give me a swats with the paddle, it would make me feel better?

I looked over at Joel, and his eyes were big and wide, and I knew he thought I was nuts to suggest that, but my dad said, "if it would make me feel better about this situation he would like to help me! I told my dad, "please?"

Joel was going to leave my room so it was just my dad and me, but I told him he could stay. I handed my dad the old "attitude adjuster", pulled down my shorts and boxers I had on to bare my butt and I turned myself over my dad's lap.

My dad gave my butt I think maybe 5 licks with the paddle and I sure felt each and everyone of them, and when I was let up he told me that, "it was hard for him to give me the licks" and I could see his eyes were misty like, and Joel had tears running down his face too. I gave my dad a hug and told him, "thanks, dad! I feel better!"

This probably sounds stupid to ya, that I should have gotten a real bad ass blistering, but it satisfied me and my dad thought what he gave me helped matters. Joel thought I didn't deserve a paddling. Can you believe that thought from Joel. Our Joel thinking that?

My butt hurt from the whacks. And this probably sounds stupid to you, but the paddling helped me I think, not that I was feeling guilty, but that there needed to be something more then just pay a traffic fine and any increase in the car insurance...I guess it helped clear the air of this situation for me.

Joel helped me put some lotion on my butt. I looked into the mirror. Even though my dad gave me some good whacks and I was red, I think he didn't whack my butt as hard as he could have.

Joel and I went over to his house to spend the night as he needed to get some things around to take to the YMCA Camp with today, so when I have some free time at noon I'll make some phone calls and my dad said he would help me too!

So Steve, thanks for your imput on what I and my dad might expect when I contact to see about the traffic fine and look into the insurance matter.

I feel so stupid that this happened, and Joel has been a great "big brother" to try to help me through this. Thanks again for your advising. Good to have a friend who is an attorney. Joel said he was going to give his grandpa a call and ask if he could check and see if they are running at speed trap at the bottom of the hill we got stopped at.

Steve, do you still want me to bend over Joel's car and strip to my butt for a whipping?
