That there are some similarities between Christianity and some ancient pagan religions is not surprising, perhaps even inevitable. It's perfectly reasonable to assume that other cultures had an awareness of God before Abraham, even if they did not have a complete understanding. Considering that, the similarities actually serve to support the factual claims of Christianity, rather than discredit them.

There is however, no comparison between the Christian God and pagan gods. Pagan gods were, invariably to my knowledge, connected with some aspect of nature (e.g. Thor, the Norse god of thunder; Ra, the Egyptian sun god). They were a part of and subject to the laws of nature. Everything I have read suggests that the Isrealites were the first monotheistic culture to worship a God that had created and ruled over all of nature, rather than being subject to it.

Certainly some forms and practices change over time, and adapt to different cultures. That's one of the beautiful things about Christianity, it can fit into virtually any culture. However, the generally accepted tenets of the faith have remained the same since the original traditions began.
