I for one agree with what you are doing and most importantly, why you are doing it. This is a touchy subject for me because I am right now living on a disability pension, due to mental diasability (social and traumatic phobias) and partial physical disability (blind in one eye and deaf in one ear). Although my disabilities are not as severe as the childrens you work with, they give me an unique perspective on the matter. What I have to say first is about the comments that you received relating to the chidren (retarded, physically deformed) are just 'drains on society'. I really do not like or approve of statements like this because they are just scape goat phrases used to hide peoples ignorance and arrogance. Unkown to them, everyone contributes to society. Who makes the $6,000.00 chairs (as Ben puts it). Companies who hire people do. These people then pay their bills thus support the economy. Everyone is an equal member or society, from the predident down to the homeless person living on the street. Now I would like everyone to define 'drains on society'. Because if the definition has to do with how much money a person makes then I am also a drain. Yet, if the definition deals with touching another persons life, bringing a little joy into life, then I have contributed through my words and artwork. The same applies with these children. How many lives have they touched through their innocence and compassion. Yes I think I dicovered the root of the matter. COMPASSION.
