Well - I did some further research and found out that both the Toshiba 1905-S303 and the HP Ze5185 both have USB 1.1 ports- so if one wants to use USB 2.0 - which is 40 times faster- then you will have to purchase a PCMIA card that provides USB 2.0 ( these sell for around $59 at Fry's).
Of course - both laptops include an IEEE 1394 FireWire that one can use at 400 Mbps. Bottomline- the major disadvantage in both of these laptops is that they are using "desktop" Pentium 4's at 2.4GHz- which could potentially yield heat problems- depending on the applications being run- and which also means that a fully charged battery will only last about 2 hours.
