Louisiana is unique within MAO for having a long history of university titleholders. Several other states also have university titleholders, primarily in the South—Mississippi, Arkansas, Alabama, Georgia, and Florida all have long-time university titles as well as Indiana and Oklahoma. Since the first university title of the year, Miss Southeastern, will be crowned this weekend, here’s some facts about university titles in Louisiana:

Ten universities in Louisiana have sent representatives to Miss Louisiana.
Four universities—Louisiana Tech (since 1951), Northwestern State (officially began 1971), Southestern Louisiana (officially began 1971), and ULM (1954)—currently send titleholders to compete at Miss Louisiana. Other university titles have included:
Centenary (mainly 1961-1970)
LSU (1950s, 1960-1969, 1980s-1992) - 2 Miss Louisianas
LSUS (1980s) - 1 Miss Louisiana
McNeese (1950s, 1975-1997)
UNO (1988)
ULL (1975-1976)
Northwestern and Southeastern did have some titleholders in the 1950s and 1960s as well.

Eight of the last 10 Miss Louisianas, at one time, have held university titles. This includes two Miss Southeasterns (2008, 2014), four Miss ULMs (2009, 2010, 2011, 2013), one Miss Tech (2012), and one Miss Oklahoma City University (2015).

Last year, two university titleholders made Top 5 (Southeastern and Tech), and ULM was Top 10. The last time three university titleholders made Top 10 was 1997—Tech and Northwestern were Top 5, and Louisiana College was Top 10.

The last year no university titleholders made the Top 10 was 2002.

At least 24 Miss Louisianas have held university titles.

Ten Miss Louisianas won the title as university titleholders—1954 Tech, 1966 Northeast, 1968 Northeast, 1978 Southeastern, 1981 Northeast, 1985 LSUS, 1986 LSU, 2003 Tech, 2010 ULM, and 2012 Tech.

I assume you Meant held the their university title while being crowned Miss Louisiana? Because your information is incorrect. Melissa Clark was Miss Louisana Tech as was Lauren Vizza, while crowned I do believe however La tech has had many more former titleholders in the ten and five, and eventually wound up being crowned like Mette Boving, Faith Jenkins just to name two.
