Canvas is not a good replacement, ID has too much leaping etc. they'll wear through in no length. WIDA rules specify black leather and laces - but this could mean laces must be black IF there are laces, as white laces are banned. Leather is a much better bet, maybe you could wear boys reel shoes without the heel? Before you go down this road would discuss with your teacher and also try a few different brands. I can't argue and say poms are amazing and supportive but sometimes the discomfort is from where the seams are at the toe and a different brand could be fine.
