You need someone to help you study for it, not everyone has that.

Especially if the person is someone who danced when they are younger and decided to teach later in life (instead of right when they are done with competition ) they might lack confidence. Exams can be very political and intimidating, if you are not well known it is even worse.

I know a lot of CLRG ADCRGs who push dancers into open before they are ready, usually cute kids with some rhythm (or boys) who start under the age of 6 end up in Open before they are really ready. Exams don't start that.

There are good teachers without exams and bad teachers who are examiners. The exams don't make you a good teacher. I took mine because my goal was to judge, but I don't think I would have taken them if that wasn't my goal.
