Boss 429 heads are NOT EVEN CLOSE to the 429/460pi heads: Boss 429's were SOHC heads-yup, camshafts in each head! They also had hemispherical combustion chambers and are about a foot wide! and aluminum! No mistaking them for 429/460 pi heads!
And how do you have a "football shaped stroke?" Crank journals are supposed to be ROUND.
The only thing that should be "football shaped" on a 460PI motor are the heads of the rod bolts: 429 CJ/SCJ, 429/460PI, and all 460 truck motors had rods that were spot faced for rod bolts that had football shaped heads; standard rods were broached with rectangular rod bolt heads-this squared off design could be prone to failure under heavy use and were only used in standard passenger car motors.
Maybe you just misunderstood what the machine shop has told you, but I'd watch them- sounds like they may not know what they are talking about. I'd watch out for other misinformation from them!
Regards,
Chris H
