We have a regular cab Chevy 4x4 short box that is normally used only in the winter or to more equipment/mc's or other trailers. We did have a 4dr model which went to the recreation dept.and still is there. Even with an extended cab you will not have the room to stuff a person in there. My suggestion is to buy a 4dr short box thereby you can put a cage in and with a good outside tool box mounted to the bed have room for misc. stuff. This would solve your problem with an SUV and you could save some $$$. Don't compromise safety by not using a cage.
