Hello,

I work for a County Enforcement Service. We currently have a Tahoe and a Jeep Cherokee for their patrol vehicles. The Jeep is coming up for replacement early next year. County Council has approved a Pick Up Truck for the new patrol vehicle. Council has a problem with the vehicles we have now. After we are finished with them there is no other County Dept that can use it. If we have a Pick Up Truck, it can go to Public Works after 5 years when we get a new vehicle. I have a few problems with this and feel that an SUV is the only type of vehicle that is suited to their needs. So I would like to hear from other officers that use or have used Pick Up Trucks for patrol work. Your assistance will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

1. What make is the vehicle? Engine size? Standard, extended cab or 4 door?

2. How does the truck handle? Turning around? On snow covered/icy roads? Lots of power, speed?

3. Do you have a prisoner shield in the truck? If you don’t have a shield, how do you transport prisoners? Deal with prisoners till another car arrives?

4. Do you recommend a Pick Up Truck be used as a general patrol/traffic enforcement vehicle?
