In reply to: Giant 's message, "Great, here goes another piece of our freedoms. Ban daily drivers. What's next? Ban all restored white police cars, because white is too close to reality? Most current squads are white, remember? And you sure do forget that when the hobby started, most in the hobby started out with daily drivers that were then restored. But maybe you are not in the hobby and wouldn't know much about it?" on 09:39:40 08/28/02 Wed

Since when did we end posting personal opinions? Sounds like you have a daily driver late model car. Banning certain vehicles from an event is the right of the organizers of that event. If you don't like it, don't go. If there is an all-Pontiac show, can the host ban Oldsmobiles from entering? Yes.

Car shows are for vintage cars. There is hardly a car show around today that doesn't limit the age of the cars they allow to enter. The most common is twenty years. A ten year old Caprice or Crown Vic that's simply got a bunch of dash lights, corner strobes and a prisoner cage is not a restored car no matter how you slice it. It's exactly what it looks like: a former police car now owned by some squirrel who gets a hard-on driving around making everyone on the road this it's still an active unit. If you want to host a show for only late-model police cars with strobes and cages and ban the vintage police vehicles, go right ahead. You boys can talk about how you restored your cars by going to the local Ford dealer and lucking out because the parts department still had NOS rear window defogger switches in stock for your 97 Crown.

Oh, and just when did the hobby officially start? The fact that it was all late models cars as you claim is not true at all if you're referring to the PCOOA. I attended the very first PCOOA meet in Sparta, IL in 1992 and the 25yr and older cars outnumbered the late models more than three to one.

Have fun with your "restored" car. I'll stick with my 1965 Ford Custom done up in my PD's markings.

Bryan: point taken, sir....................but, those 1991+ Caprices in particular will be gone sooner than anybody wants to admit to...........and will indeed qualify as 20+ YO vehicles in less than 8 years.................and will be damn near impossible to find............as it stands: the first 1991 big Chevy's came out in early 1990...............over 12 years ago! And, to be honest, IMHO; one would be wise in stockpiling 'police' only parts for the 1990's cars.............in particular the Caprice. Hell, it has been out of production for well over 5 years now.
