I didn't realize the cars are religious icons or symbols to some of you.

Like all religions you need your rites. I guess to you it's showing your symbols at some police car show. Fine, I never said not to show your cars if that's what you want to do. I only said that showing my car isn't all that important. I thought preserving the cars was. Years ago before there were any police car shows there were people like me who just happened to like police cars. People would ask me why. I'd tell them about all the heavy duty and high performance features they had. Some would understand, most would just shake their heads. We drove them and used them as what they are, cars.

Every religion has it's fanatics. It appears Greg is one of them. I challenged his view of the world, and he therefore had to attack me. He wrapped himself in notion that showing you cars somehow honors the brave people you patrol our streets, fight fires and provide emergency medical treatment. Maybe it does, but it's not the only way to do this. I would guess that he thinks only those who hang out a flag are "real" Americans. This is still a free country.
He can say and do what he wants.

As for me, what little time and money I have left after working and caring for my family I choose to send saving and mechanically restoring some great old police cars.
I never thought of putting shields and lights on them. I never intended to show them.

They are only, in the final analyst cars. They are fun and interesting, but they aren't that important in the greater scope of things. I know that fanatics will not understand this. Just like I do not understand
what fanatics do. The events of a year ago show what a few fanatics can do.

In the end, no minds were changed, but really needed to be. I was only asking for tolerance of other points of view about the hobby. The pope of police cars
has excommunicated me for this.

Showing your cars as a measure of the hobby?

As the sung says,"A yardstick for lunatics",
but that's just "one point of view".
