There was a time I said I'd never own anything but a RWD V-8 car. And, in fact, I was in the process of negotiating to buy a used 96 Caprice 9-C-1 to replace my 5.0 Mustang LX Sedan (5.0L Mustangs SUCK in the winter here in VT). My wife suggested I check and see what local dealers had. Well, a really nice 98 Intrepid caught my eye, I bought it, and 123,000 miles later, I'm still happy with it. It has nearly as much interior room as the Caprice, handles almost as well as the 'Stang, rides a whole lot better, and has all the power I really need. I've had two ex-cruisers, a 68 Fury I with the HP 383 -- a great car -- and a 1988 Gran Fury, and loved both of them (I still have the Gran Fury, which awaits restoration), but I have to say the Intrepid is the best sedan I've ever owned. Autobahn police in Germany drive stock Audis and BMWs with straight six or V-6 engines and those cars are as fast or faster than any V-8 of comparable price available in the US or Australia. And they handle better, too, just like the Intrepid handles better -- and rides better -- than the CVPI does. Now if I could just afford an Intrepid police package, I'd be a happy guy.
