Random events...hmmm...Are they REALLY random? Butterfly Wings. 'Small' events can have BIG consequences. Maybe the whole power of 'the CONSPIRACY/CONSPIRACIES' is their ability to influence the small events to enable the BIG ones to occur. OR maybe it's just a game of 'I wonder what would happen.....'. I've heard it said that total paranoia is just total awareness. I do believe the quality of life (or the lack thereof) and the low self-opinions of the masses has a lot to do with the state of civilization but if you read Robert Anton Wilson's "the Historical Illuminati pt.2: the Widow's Son" (which might be kind of hard to find), you will see how those factors could be realisticly (sp?) played with and upon. IF you control enough of the food supply to jack the prices too high for the meager wages of the majority to afford, the odds are you'll have a revolution on your hands (ie: the French Revolution). I'm not saying it was the product of conspiracy, but it easily COULD have been -- (it COULD just as easily have been bad 'management' on the part of the monarch, too).
