Pointing excitedly, her eyes fill with wonder. "This is always going to make me emotional, isn't it?" She looks from face to face and sighs heavily. Suddenly an itch plagues her and she scratches a forearm with a vengance. "I really should change, I know, but I want to watch the last hatching."

Why? You saw most of them, you'll see the new pairs again. I think you should do something to stop itching, because you're starting to make me itch, too! Shrineth shakes her head disconcertedly, but acquiesces to her rider's insistence on staying. You'll only make us late for whatever happens next, but I'll do whatever pleases you. She grumbles in helpless protest and shakes her head gently.

"All these dragons are so beautiful and strong. I think all of you got fabulous, majestic animals." She beams at her friends, glad of the way things were progressing. "I knew Igen was the place for me all along. Of course," she adds as she watches Shrineth's eyes turn an unmistakable green, "no prettier or more majestic than the most perfect dragon on Pern, my Shrineth." Her voice is softly genuine as she cradles the dragon's head between her palms, gazing wonderingly into the rainbow eyes. Mollified, the queen trills her joy, making Doe a tad unsettled.

And you are the only human for me, the only one I'll ever need to be happy. The dragon's thought resonates through her mind and she grins.

"You guys didn't tell me how wonderful it could be, this partnership. But I don't suppose it's mundane enough for description!" She smiles blissfully and gives Shrineth's eye ridges a satisfying scratch. "I hope the final egg decides to find a candidate soon!"
