Gently leading Salzay through corridors and down stairs to get from the weyrs to the Lower Caverns, G’rein considered this information. Maybe Halzay wasn’t as unmoving as he thought she would be. The greenrider had always been of the opinion that she was unreasonable – though he was biased since S’peer was his best friend. But maybe she was coming round?

“He’s wanted to talk to your mummy for a long time.” ‘Gren, is Halzay still in the Lower Caverns?’

She is indeed. I think she is worried because she doesn’t know where the child is. Or maybe because you are close to S’peer.

A much as he wanted to be annoyed at this last fact, G’rein had to admit it was understandable. As he took the small girl along the corridor to the large hall, he could see Halzay waiting at the entrance. Letting Sally run forward if she wanted to, he walked more slowly, eventually extending a hand to her. If him being nice would aid S’peer’s case, maybe he should be so.

“I’m G’rein. I think she got lost in the weyrs.”
