Subject: Now Why Did NG Change The Swing? My take!
In reply to: HH 's message, "Now Why Did NG Change The Swing?" on 17:05:14 02/26/02 Tue

I think there are two major reason why NG changed the mechanics of thier swing.

1.. They are now taking on more instructors, yet the pre-requisite of the being an NGIC is that you have to have a few years experience as a golf instructor already, so what does that leave them with, but a base of CG (only) instructors to draw from.

It would be a lot easier for them to convert a CG instructor over to NG if NG became more like a CG swing, and the new "Grass Cutting drill and folding elbows type swing does just that.

2. They are trying to distance themselves as much as possible from the "Old NG", which is Jack Kuykendal and any vestiges of him, which is his swing mechanics.

Now as for the folding elbows type swing, well when you have your lead elbow collapse into your left side midway through the downswing (like they advocate in the NG magazine issue two months back) all that does is make your trail forearm rotate over lead hand too early into the downswing, possibly causing a hook!
