Subject: SERIOUS QUESTION TO ADMIN OF THIS, EDUCATION, CREATIVE WRITER & KUMUL FORUMS

Dear ladies and gentlemen,

I really would like your opinion and assessment of the state of the alternative forums for Papua New Guineans. I have studied these recently and looked in the archives where archives exist. I post on this forum as it seems to be the most active of the alternative forums.

It is clear that nearly all serious discussion on any forum for Papua New Guineans on the internet has collapsed. Wantok's Forum might be said to have the most serious discussion at this point of all the forums. However there is all kinds of nonserious postings even on the main board over there on that forum. This No Glitches forum has serious discussions and it looks like some are making a noble effort to keep things serious. However there is the continual intervention of low level discussions which revolve in one way or another, around Bill White or Divine Word and as such this forum too looks like it is full of a lot of nonuseful discussion.

The most serious alternative forums of them all, the Education & Development, the Creative Writers, and the Kumul Forum, all seem to have collapsed. Hardly anyone has anything to say on them anymore. There is no sustained dialogue on any of these forums anymore. People post their opinions but hardly anyone will reply and start up a good debate or dialogue. The new PNG Womens Forum very much seems the same at the moment.

One cannot blame Bill White for those forums becoming increasingly inactive can they? Bill White has not even posted on one or two of them.

Is there some feedback or opinion anyone is willing to give concerning what the problem is, and why there is so little serious participation by Papua New Guineans on the internet these days? Is it because students are tired of participating, or because there are so few students hooked up to the internet?

I have read the solution above, recommending of kicking Bill White and his postings off the forum. However even Wantok's Forum seems to have abandoned that strategy. Besides, none of the other forums seem to have kicked him off, he seems to be allowed on all of them.

I would like to know where you think the problem actually lies. Thanks for your opinion or comments. I want to do something to contribute positively to the development of serious discussions by Papua New Guineans on the internet. However at the moment I am at a loss to fully understand what the limitations or barriers have been. Why do so few Papua New Guineans engaging in serious discussion these days?

Ta.
