Subject: AIR NIUGINI MANAGEMENT IS A DISGRACE

Last year I my eyes and ached from hearing words of praise being poured on Mr Ogil as a competent CEO. Yet, it seems that nothing has changed and cronysm and nepotismis alive and well, even for an airline that was once the rpide of PNG and one of the better managed orgainisations.

Can anyone please infrom this forum what the underlying issues, that tranformed this once vibrant airline into the pitiful organisation that it is now

'Redundant Air Niugini jobs now filled by cronies'
RELATIVES of Air Niugini management personnel have filled positions vacated by 300 staff members who were retrenched, the National Airline Employees Association (NAEA) claimed yesterday.
NAEA acting general secretary Veronica Bera said in a statement that the union is disgusted with the Air Niugini management for breaching its retrenchment policy.

"When the retrenchment policy was signed on March 19 last year, it was clearly understood between the parties that all positions to be made redundant were to be completely abolished," she said.

She claimed however, that after the retrenchment exercise, relatives of the management personnel were hired to fill the redundant positions.

Ms Bera said the matter is of much concern to the union because huge sums of money were paid to the retrenched staff.

She said an appeal was lodged in relation to positions that the union viewed were wrongfully abolished.

To date, the Air Niugini management has yet to respond to the appeal.

Ms Bera said the retrenched staff are still waiting for their Public Officers Superannuation Funds contribution and nothing was done to help them.

She also questioned the motive behind the retrenched staff not getting their final entitlements to enable them to return home.

Another matter Ms Bera raised is that of the tax deduction of final entitlements, which the union bought up with the management.

The issue has been referred to the Internal Revenue Commission.

Ms Bera said a letter submitted in January last year has yet to be replied.

After waiting for over 10 months, the former employees plan to make their second attempt to see the Air Niugini managing director, Andrew Ogil today.
