Might be confirmation bias at work in that you spent so much time at the beer tent that you missed smoking going on elsewhere at the Montana fair. I tend to explore as much territory as possible but identify places where smoking is more likely to occur (near where alcohol is served being a top spot), but never get so dedicated to one spot that you write off others. At least in my experience, smoking is gonna happen everywhere at some point...you just gotta be there when it is.

It very much was the case five years ago that males were on the cutting edge of vaping while females were sticking with cigarettes. Now the opposite seems to be true. Very common now to see two young couples where the guys are smoking and the girls are vaping. Very depressing.

Now you may well be right that guys smoking more won't necessarily translate to girls eventually doing the same, but at this point I'll take any replacement smokers I can get, even if they're guys. I am not laughing off PM's declaration to supporting outlawing cigarettes entirely in 10 years. At the rate things are going with replacement smokers few and far between, it wouldn't be unreasonable at all to believe cigarettes could be made to disappear in a decade. Who's gonna be there to protest it after a decade of no replacement smokers? If cigarettes continue to exist, things will eventually cycle back to some limited degree and females will cotton to them again....but that's only if somebody is still buying them. If the only ones who are right now are white working-class Proud Boys and Oathkeeper types who choose to smoke cigarettes as another way to give the finger to the establishment, then I guess I'll take what I can get.

Duluth, MN, is an interesting place. Back in 2004, voters there rejected a bar smoking ban by a 54-46 margin, making it the only place I'm aware of where voters rejected a local smoking ban. It's a very PC college town but also has a lot of blue-collar harbor workers, so I can sort of understand how it happened there.
