Fascinating!

The only English language resolution upgrade site I know of - http://www.bekkoame.ne.jp/~t-imai/cce5.html - only refers to the first of these alternatives, which we have been calling 'VGA mode' when it would appear not to be that. As far as I know, the "8-pin to 12-pin" option has not been mentioned on an English language site before.
