Thank you, I really appreciate that. I agree, what he did was way out of line and pretty sadistic. He had a reputation for paddling hard, too hard if you ask me. I never saw anybody come out of his office boy or girl that wasn't bawling like a baby after being paddled by him. Wearing a skirt and deciding to sneak out of School to avoid my American History class (that Teacher was such a sexist jerk which is another story) on a pretty day was a bad choice and I admit I deserved to be paddled for it, but not like I got it that day. No kid deserves that. He usually paddled boys and would give the girls a choice between either taking licks or a week of Detention along with a two week ECS (Extra Curricular Suspension) Not wanting to get Detention for a week and ECS, I chose to take the licks. When I went to the office after School to get my licks, there was a boy in there. It sounded like a gun being shot in there as he got paddled and he was crying out loud during it. When I saw the boy come out I was shocked to see he was a Ninth Grader and a Linebacker on the Football team and he was rubbing his butt and crying like a baby. I got really scared. The AP had to take a phone call, so I had to wait for a few minutes dreading my impending fate. Once I got called in, I was already starting to tear up, he again gave me the choice of Detention and ECS or the three licks. I almost took the Detention but there were a couple of activities I was really looking forward to the next week and I foolishly took the licks. So he got his paddle out of his desk, Then got the Secretary to come in, I thought as a witness. He told her "G....." (my last name) is going to get three licks today, I need your assistance." He had me come to the desk and lay across the top of it, with my feet on the floor and my arms outstretched in front of me. I thought that was odd as the other times I had gone to the office in Elementary School, I only had to lean over and put my hands on the desk. Then he had the Secretary hold my wrists while I was bent over in the insane position. I was so nervous, I didn't realize exactly how exposed my bottom was until he tapped the paddle against it before she spanking started. He was gripping the paddle with both hands and hit full force on my exposed butt. I have to tell you, it was the worst beating I ever experienced. No one had ever hit me that hard before or since.

I agree with you, he should have not only lost his job at the end of the school year, I believe he should have been arrested. My Daddy wanted to kill him when he saw the state my butt was in. I ended up being out of School for the rest of the week. I was hurting so bad, Momma literally had to help me in the bathroom because I couldn't sit down on the toilet. My parents removed the permission for the Schools to paddle us for the rest of the time we were in School unless you count the one "lick" I got posing with the Principal in High School. I was one of the Office Aids and when we posed for our Yearbook picture, since I never got paddled in High School, I volunteered to pose for a "paddling" while the other girls stood behind his desk. There were two pictures. One where I was bent over while he held the paddle like he was about to swing it and the other where he actually gave me one pop on the butt. It didn't really hurt and I laughed when he did it. Both pictures were used in the Yearbook.

My kids attend the same Schools I went to. But they banned the use of Corporal Punishment two years before my oldest son was born. They got a new very right leaning Superintendent this year who tried to bring the Paddle back. but after a series of public forums, one of which I spoke at and shared my experience with that AP as to why I'm opposed to Corporal Punishment in School The School Board unanimously voted against it.

I ran into that former Assistant Principal a last year just before Christmas when I was out shopping with my now adopted daughter Kayla. He tried to strike up a conversation with me. I tried to be polite but I didn't want to talk to him. After a couple of attempts at conversation I told him. Mr. A..... as a Christian I forgave you for what you did to me. But I'll damn sure never forget it." Then we walked away. Kayla asked me what that was all about and I treated her to coffee and we sat down and talked about it.
