's message, "*The tall pretty foxwife leans over in her armchair and opens a large red book with silver trim*" on 22:34:02 10/27/02 Sun
A young red foxmaid sat on a large woven rug, a cheery fire crackling in the hearth. She looked at the windows, frosted by the last night’s snow. A tall male fox, silver with age, peered through his half-moon spectacles at her and smiled.
“Come now, Felicia, my lovely young granddaughter. Seeing that the snow has locked us in for a bit, why don’t I tell you a story?” Felicia grinned broadly and placed her oatmeal beside her.
“I’d like that, grandfather. What’s it called?” The old fox opened a large red book with silver trim, its pages yellow and frail.
“It has no title, but it is the story two foxes and their quest to rid the world of the evil wildcat king, Gerik Deathblade. Listen closely, young one.” The young foxmaid looked up at him as he began his story.
Book One
A pretty, young vixen sat on a grassy knoll beneath a tree, watching the sun rise over the lake. A long redwood staff lay at her side, along with a haversack full of food and clothing. Sighing heavily, she leaned her back against a thick oak tree. Was it just half a season ago a deadly virus had swept through her village? She blinked back a tear and stood up, smoothing out her red silk robe. Making her way out onto the dusty path, she trekked off opposite the sun.
“You have entered the territory of Lord Gautier Sunshadow! Who goes there?” The vixen froze and held up her staff in a defensive position.
“I am Callisto Stargazer the Healer.” The leaves rustled and a raccoon in a blue jerkin landed neatly on the path before her. Callisto noted the long dagger in his belt.
“Aye, my Lord has heard of you. Follow me.” The raccoon turned on his heel and walked off toward a large stone fortress. Callisto hesitated for a moment and followed him, anxious of what lay before her.
