CHAPTER 9
There was a slight rustling in the grass. Chrassneyah's tongue flicked in and out of her cruel mouth, as she made her way towards the smell of prey. Soon she came upon a camp of GUOSIM shrews. Silently she slithered forward, a chubby little shrew babe was playing at the edge of the clearing. The adder hissed in glee, "Thissssss will be assssss easssssssy assssss sssssstealing a pie from under a dead beassssstsssss nosssssse!" Steadily she drew nearer... Suddenly the air was shattered by a scream, "Eeeeeeek!! Heeeelp meeeee!! Yeeeeeek!!" The shrews mother saw her son being pulled into the forest, she also saw why he was screaming. Her screams too, rose up from the camp, as did her sobs of horror.

Aubbress and Tarrow stood side by side on the walltop, watching the sun sink lower and lower, each lost in their own thoughts. Aubbress idly waxed her bowstring, as Tarrow checked to be sure that her arrows were straight. Neither spoke, but they knew that they were both thinking the same thing; What adventures and dangers would the morrow bring, when they left the abbey at dawn?
The silence was broken by the Matthias and Methuselah bells, Aubbress blinked in surprise, Tarrow was already on her way, but she stopped and called over her shoulder, "Come on mate, those bells are sayin' the same thing me ole stomach is!" Aubbress chuckled as she ran to catch up, "Haha, last one to Cavern hole is a snapped arrow!" Laughing, they ran down the stairs and into Cavern hole, where Revin told them that it was a tie. The meal consisted of a large fruit salad, several loaves of nutbread, pasties in mushroom gravy, deeper 'n ever pie, delicious vegetable soup, and dandilion an' burdock cordial. Aubbress, Tarrow, and Revin, stuffed themselves with all the good food. Mother Diviniah shook her head, as she whispered to the Abbot, "Look at them eat, I don't believe a hare could scoff as much!" Abbot Jerl smiled knowingly, "They need to keep up their strength for the journey they are about to take." The badger mother sighed, "Are you sure about them going, Father Abbot?" He nodded, "It is Martins command, we cannot ignore it!" Sniffing, The badger quickly wiped a paw across her eyes, "Yes, I know it is Martins command, but they are so young!" Aubbress stopped mid bite, "Excuse me Mother Diviniah, I couldn't help over-hearing, I am 16 seasons, Tarrow is 15 seasons, and Revin is 17 1/2 seasons. We are not dibbuns!" Diviniah frowned, but said no more.
As soon as they were through eating, Aubbress, Tarrow, and Revin, went to bed early, they were going to have to wake up before dawn. As soon as their heads hit the pillows, they were all sound asleep.
