CHAPTER 21
The sun was sliding far into the west by the time the four questors arrived at the meadows, where the final stretch of their journey had begun. Aubbress had been the first to hear the rushing water and see the odd flowers, she called to the others, "Look!!! Up ahead are the meadows!" She and Tarrow walked extra fast, as did Jet who by now had given up on complaining. The first thing they did when they got there was to take off their sandals and plunge their foot paws into the water. Revin sat propped up by the stretcher, chuckling at the looks on the faces of his friends as soon as they felt the soothing coolness of the river, "Hohoho!! You'd think that Friar Derral and Jet had gotten together and made a feast!" He licked his lips thoughtfuly, "Hmm. That wouldn't be such a bad idea..." Jet frowned, "I'm not makin' a bally feast with my footpaws in this jolly ol' condition, wot!" Aubbress gave him a playful shove, "Oh? Well then who's going to help me an' Tarrow make supper?" The hare lept up, forgetting his sore paws, "Your command is my wish!! No, that's not right.... Oh yes, your wish is my command!" Tarrow peered down into the water and spoke, "Watershimp!" just as Aubbress had pulled a bag out of her pack and said, "Hotroot!" Jet and Revin's eyes lit up as they shouted in unison, "Hotroot soup!!"

Abbot Jerl smiled as he watched the elders playing with the dibbuns. He turned to Diviniah and Sister Jessemine, "Look at Skipper, he's almost worse than all the dibbuns put together! Oh for the energy of the young...." Sister Jessemine didn't answer, but smothered a chuckle behind her paw as she pointed to a frazzled Senetta trying to get to the bell tower surounded by other dibbuns, "Oh, ahahaha!! Senetta sure has her paws full." She stood up, still shaking with silent laughter, "Hahaha, heeheehee! Oh dear, ahehehe! We had better get to Great Hall. Suppers probably ready. Hohoha! Senetta won't be ringing the bells any time soon." Diviniah, nodded, unable to speak because she was laughing so hard. The three walked to Great Hall, finally having to lean on each other they were so overcome with giggles. Finally when they had calmed down and when everybeast was seated around the table, Jerl stood and spoke a few words, "My friends, I have but one thing to say: Eat and enjoy!! The abbey beasts needed no second bidding and began to hungrily fill their plates.

Tarrow taste-tested the soup and spoke to Aubbress, "Mmm!! One o' the best 'otroot soups I've ever tasted." She licked her lips, "Must be all the 'otroot ye put in, Jet." She turned to the hare, "Care ta taste it? It's yore master piece!!" He shook his head vigorously and gulped down several canteens of water. Aubbress held a paw over her amused smile and whispered to the ottermaid, "I've a feeling he already did..."
Revin sat some distance away, watching the hare and doing his best to keep a straight face. At last Jet's mouth had cooled and they all sat down to eat, Jet refusing to have any soup and munching on an old apple pancake he had found at the bottom of Revin's food pack instead.

After all of the delicious food had been eaten, everybeast went out to the orchard where torches were brightly blazing against the darkening sky. A simple stage, made of a few tables pushed together, was the center of attention. Mother Diviniah sat beside it, a piece of parchment in her paws. She cleared her throat and then read aloud, "Ahem. The Dibbun Food Skit. Performed by Senetta, Ashe, and Pikkel. And read by River and Stream." There was a loud round of applause as the dibbuns stepped onto the stage. Ashe and Pikkel were dressed like searats, with black eyepatches, wooden cutlaces, and torn silk garments. Senetta looked every inch a poor mouse maid, from her long ragged black dress, to her unkempt fur. River and Stream stood at the front of the stage and began reading,
"Oh once upon a time, there was poor young mousemaid fair,
who was walking alone in the woods, hungry as a bear.
When suddenly right in her way, two searats stood and bared their fangs.
She shouted out in anger, "Let me by, you mean ol' things."
The searats chuckled and they said, "But madam, this is our land."
But she defied them and yelled again, "Let me pass, I demand!!"
Those pirates waved their cutlases and grinned as they spoke,
Well then, you'll have to fight us." Then they laughed at their small joke.
Well that pretty mousemaid out-grinned them that day,
as she turned to them and gleefuly did say,
"Alright then, but please let me
choose what our weapons will be."
They nodded, and she yelled, "FOOD FIGHT!!"
Soon those evil searats were quite a sight.
As they were battered with trifles, and everything sweet,
those pirates with their tails tucked in, hastened to make their retreat!
Then she continued down the trail, as she laughed and did say,
"I had so much fun, that I hope I'll meet those searats again someday!!"
The end of the skit was met with much applause and several chuckles from various members of the audience.

All was still except for the constant flowing of the river. The four friends had eventually fallen asleep, each wondering what was happening at the abbey. Suddenly the warrior mouse again entered Revins dreams. He smiled warmly and spoke,
"Three friends gone, but four to return from the place of which there is no return.
One with my sword, champion to be.
One with tail like rudder, a healer to her holt.
One with long ears, to cook and bake.
And one with pretty face, a good Champions wife she will make.
Then he saluted the sleeping squirrel with his sword, and stepped back into the mists of time.
