The girl’s silver hair spread about on her pillow as she rolled over. Her pointed ears twitched as her hovering alarm clock went off. BEEP! BEEP! The mechanical voice hummed in her ear, “It is now 5:00 a.m. on June 30, 3004 A.D. And you’re name is Arion Kavira Rogers.” She slammed it down on her desk, knowing nothing could hurt the little clock. “I know what my name is and I know the date!” She gasped suddenly, and her yellow-green eyes flew open in shock. June 30th was her mother’s birthday! She rushed downstairs, her golden-tanned skin flashing as she hurtled down the deep blue carpeted steps, knowing her mother would not be up yet.
A cold hand touched her from behind, and she felt something that was unusually…icy…trickle down her back. “Aaaaaiiiiii!!!” She shrieked, as she turned to face her brother, holding 5 more cubes of ice ready to drop down someone’s shirt any minute. A wide grin split his face as he dumped the rest into the icebox. “Finch! Don’t scare me like that!” She laughed as she dumped out the ice from her shirt. “So much for keeping Mom asleep…” She murmured. Finch’s smile disappeared as he remembered. “Today is Mom’s birthday!” He muttered. Arion nodded smugly. Finch sighed. He looked outside, where their horses were. He remembered his great great great grandfather telling him that back in 2000 A.D., they had cars. They were metal frames with paint on them that ran on engines. Finch didn’t see why they had gone back to horses. He looked up, shaken out of his daze. There went Arion, riding her white stallion. Arion always went out for a morning ride. He decided that he would make Mom a birthday cake, while his little sister went out riding. He sighed again. Being twenty wasn’t easy. Especially not when he was home for the summer.
