My leg catches. With the mad pain singing in my ears, I charge out of the blazing house, running through the fire.
Snow. I fall, embracing the cold whiteness. I lie there, kicking snow over my burned legs.
The wolf howls again, a triumphant sound. I lie there, uncaring.
The howl comes closer.
I pay no heed until I see the animal, slinking around the corner of the blazing inferno that was my house. The wolf looks exactly like the siku on my embroidery. Black with a snarling red mouth.
I scream again, rising, only to collapse. Pain shoots through my legs. I crawl. Gasping, I arrive at the next house.
I hammer on the door.
The wolf has my leg in his teeth. He tugs, and I fall on my face. Blood pours.
