I wrote this for my preacher when he left my church last month. I cried when his son-in-law read it in church.

I never thought that you would go away,
In my mind I said "He'll be here to stay".
But now you're leaving so I will say to you,
A poem of my thoughts, the thoughts that are so true.
I'll never forget your smiling face, that day so long ago,
That day that I met you, I forgot my tales of woe.
You took me under your wing and showed me what God really looks like,
Now doing what Christians do is as easy as riding a bike.
You humbled yourself before our Lord, there was no pride involved,
Every problem you had with sin was somehow always solved.
I sat before you like an eager child,
And the effect you brought was almost never mild.
You pray for people who don't know who you are,
Wherever they are, whether near or far.
So wherever you go,
I want you to know,
"Never forget me because I'll never forget you."
