Chapter Two
Gurnad Danrug sat in the bows of the ship "Waveripper",which had been docked north of Castle Floret,eating a roasted seabird.He spat out a bone and threw a leg of it at two grey,skinny rats,one carrying what looked like a minature accordian,the other nothing."Horfang,Turncoat",he said,"play something.It's boring sitting here with nothing but the seabirds making a sound."The rats obeyed,Horfang starting up a dirge-like song,Turncoat singing with it.
"O'er seas of grey-blue,
He came to you.
The son of the Foxwolf,
The son of Urgan Nagru.
He's stronger than steel,
Harder to break than yew.
The son of the Foxwolf,
The son of Urgan Nagru."
Gurnad snarled when they stopped."Well,keep playing!I never said stop!"The rats immediatly started again,doing the song over and over again.Gurnad threw the rest of the seabird at a plump rat."Tornear",he shouted,"Preserve that for my dinner tonight."Then he settled back for a nap,chuckling to himself."I have a feeling tomarrow will be a fine day to parry for Floret.I need my sleep now.Horfang,Turncoat.Stop playing and singing and make sure the crews are completely silent.If I awake to sound,I'll have your guts for garters.Understand?"The rats nodded their heads vigorously and set about their task,leaving their leader to sleep.
