This is the Woodland Legend I sent in last night. I think it deserves a nice home in the fireside..... Tell me how you like it!! I think there's aleast one beast who knows where I got the characters from..... (^__~)
Redwall's Romeo and Juliet
Once, a long time ago in the time of Kotir, lived two lovers: a pretty squirrel named Rosetree and a handsome hare called Riku. Rosetree lived in a castle up stream (River Moss) from Riku's father's fort. Rosetree and Riku would always meet in the middle of the trail to each other's dwelling. Rosetree's father, King Earleaf, ruler of his castle, found out about Rosetree and Riku. King Earleaf did not like the idea of Rosetree and Riku together because they were different species. "But father," Rosetree protested, "it does not matter about what a beast looks like..... Inside, everybeast is like the other, same species or not." King Earleaf did not listen to his daughter, but just warned Rosetree not to see Riku again. For many weeks, the two beasts Rosetree and Riku did not see each other. They were both heart broken and lonely. One night, Riku wanted to see his love atleast one last time. He snuck out and half way up the trail, he met Rosetree. "Rosetree!" the happy hare cried. "I thought I'd never see you again!" Rosetree replied, "I am glad we can see together at this time!" Unfortunality, King Earleaf saw them, and rushed up. "What are you doing, Rosetree??" he screamed. Rosetree stepped up and said, "I love Riku, and you must accept that!" King Earleaf pointed at the hare and cried, "That beast? A hare?" "Yes, and you must accept that! I love Riku and Riku loves me!" Rosetree repeated. "I am your father, Rosetree," King Earleaf roared, "and I demand you never see him again!" "No, father! I will not do as you wish!" Rosetree protested. King Earleaf drew his dagger and snarled, "I warned you, you stupid girl!" He thrusted the dagger at her, but Riku jumpped in front. "Rosetree!" The handsome hare falls, his side bleeding. "Riku!" Rosetree screamed and dropped next to her boyfriend, and shivered in tears. "Riku! No!" She rested his head on her knee. "Riku....." The wounded hare looked into her eys. "Rosetree, where ever I am, I will always love you deep in my heart....." Riku's voice would go faint, and his eyes closed. Rosetree stood up in front of her father. "Why? Why father, why couldn't you accept our love?" She bent down and picked up the dagger and stuttered, "Riku said he would love me
where ever he is.... I'd rather be closest to him!" And with that, she thrusted the dagger at her chest, and before her father could stop her, she fell next to her love, bleeding. She crawled up to Riku's face and with her final breath, whispered, "Riku, our love shall be forever and forever close...." She kissed him one more final time on the lips and went limp.....
So if you ever happen to be going on that trail, you might see the two lovers kissing by River Moss, or King Earleaf screaming at them, or even more rare, the dramatic death of the two.....
