Cody still felt strange around the otter, and he couldn't help looking at him, this big friendly creature was much more different from the creatures he had seen in the zoo.
Perhaps he was on some island in which animals could walk and talk like humans... like some thing out of Ninja Turtles, or wind in the willows...
Cody opened up his Laptop, and tried to connect onto the internet again, but as before it didn't do anything, and so as he knew he must be in a different world that is so far away from his own that it is out of range from other computers and networks.
He could at least use his own files. he decided if he was in another world he should write a diary of what happened to him, or unless he was just hallucinating, a dream perhaps, Yes! a dream this has got to be a dream!!
He told Lorby the otter to whack him on the head.
'I am pretty strong, I don't want to hurt you, for you are a rare species and well...'
'Please just do it!'
'Alright I won't hit you so hard'
He whacked him and he blacked out.
(A few hours later)
He awoke with a splitting headache.
ow! my head is throbbing (sp?)
He noticed he was sitting in a bed with a blanket that was seemed to be made out of reeds and moss... he looked around and his laptop was sitting on the table next to him, he got up and he was in the shack that he was standing outside of earlier.
He got up but Lorby put him back in the bed and gave him a mug of hot mint tea.
'I'm sorry I whacked you so hard... I was a fierce warrior in my day, but I'm not so strong compared to other otters in my holt.'
'Holt?'
'Otter tribe, my leader and mother was named Strongrose, same person ya know' (He said with a wink)
The boy started to take a liking to the otter but Stronger creatures? he knocked him out with one of his lighter blows... What they lacked in technology they made up in strength.
The boy sat in there and talked with the otter, the otter told him about his past, and how he came to live with torkin.
The boy was amazed at this interesting world, and he wanted to know more about it, and he tried not to talk about his own world much, for he knew the otter would not understand about Telephones and satellites... nor television or radio... or even typewriters for that matter, he just remained calm.
He then realized that his wish was what had taken him this world so he started saying 'I wish I was back home!' Over and over again but nothing happened...
'Darn!'
The otter still thought that Human's were interesting creatures and wanted to know more.
He then asked the boy what food he liked.
The boy said stuff like Pizza, and Taco's which he liked but the otter did not ever hear of taco's and pizza...
'Hamburgers? Hotdogs?'
'Nope.'
'Pasta?'
'Nope.'
'French Fries?'
'sorry'
'Fish?'
Now the otter heard of fish, and the boy knew since being an otter he would probably like fish.
I was cooking a trout in the oven for tonight... you can join if you like.
(He walked into the kitchen)
The boy got up still rubbing his head.
'You are a strange creature Cody, but I like ya' the otter called from the kitchen, he happened to be making some sort of soup in a pot.'
'Ya like watershrimp and hotroot soup?'
(he had never heard of it, so he said he hadn't tried it)
You'll love it cody!
Cody wondered where the other creatures went.
The mice were in the other bedroom, and they came in, and cody still felt strange around them.
'Um are there any other creatures I should know about?'
'Just us.'
'No. I mean species'
The elder mouse counted his 'fingers? claws?' well whatever.
'several, Moles, squirrels, voles, hedgehogs, hares, Shrews, badgers... if you want the good kind, but on the other hands these ones you should stay away from... Foxes, Rats, weasels, stoats, and ferrets... I even heard of the odd beaver or hamster, but never seen one... one creature even mentioned to me about monitor lizards... vicious creatures...
Cody told the mouse from where he came from mice are very little, can't talk, and runs around on all fours.
Everyone laughed.
They didn't believe him...
It's true!
The boy even had pet mice when he was younger but they didn't believe it... well at least tried not to...
The mouse said that he should have dinner and go to sleep and in the morning they will take him to redwall, they can help him there.
And they sat down to dinner, he had never seen such fresh salad.
He wasn't very much of a veggie person, but he loved it! the vegetables were fresh and tasty and the dressing was great! he had only tried italian and ranch dressing, and this was just as good.
and the fish was exquisite (SP?)
He wondered what redwall abbey was like, from what they told him it sounded good, and they said the food was the best around, he couldn't wait to get there, but he still was trying to wish to go back home but nothing was happening...
maybe he had to wait overnight for it to work.
but if it didn't he still wanted to know what redwall was, they said it was great and he wanted to see for himself.
Who knows? he wondered what other things are in this world he couldn't wait.
