They were walking to redwall, Cody was slightly upset about his laptop but knew he didn't need it where he was going.
Rengar was in the lead beside Lorby, and Farby and Tokey were walking behind them on either side of Cody.
Farby and Tokey were very interested in the Human, they kept asking him guestions about where he came from, and how he got there, but Cody tried to to avoid it for he wasn't all that sure himself now...
'All I know is I came from another world where my kind are the dominate species, and the Squirrels, Otters, and Mice are well, small... and not as advanced as us.'
'I don't get it.' Tokey shrugged.
'Well they don't were clothes and run on all fours, and they can't talk'
'Can't talk!!??' Farby cried... 'That's strange...'
'They make squeaking noises and mice are so small they can fit in the palm of my hand.'
'Hand!? that's what those furless clawless things are I just assumed they were a different kind of paw' Tokey
replied.
'About 10 minutes till we get there' Rengar yelled back to the others.
Cody was wondering why Rengar didn't seem to be very interesting in him, he thought they were interesting but he thought that Rengar would well... be more excited to see a human for the first time.
He whispered to Tokey and asked him, why he seemed so... well, silent, he didn't really say or ask very much about him.
Tokay told him that 'when he was young something awful happened to him and his village, and since then he hardly ever smiled or laughed, just as tough a brick and hardly any emotions... that just makes him deadlier... he is a great warrior and very skilled, but he never mentions his past to anyone. I don't even know anything about it, he just told me what I told you, and nothing more...but he's still a great leader and we stick around with him so he can train us to be great warriors as well'
'Cody then noticed that those two squirrels were only about his age, funny... they seemed older.
'Here we go we are at redwall, we will be going now...come on you two.'
Rengar jumped up a tree and was gone...
The other two did the same but kinda reluctantly since they still wanted to see more of the human but rengar was a very stern fellow, and no-one wanted to cross him.
Cody and Lorby walked up the path, and Cody could hear Bell's ringing, they sounded beautiful almost like church bells from the church a few blocks from his house.
A elderly shrew looked up from the wallgate, and pointed down at Cody and Lorby
'Abbot! I think you might want to see this!'
About Balir got up from his lunch in the orchard and yelled up to the shrew 'What do you see Taffus don't tell me it's vermin!'
The shrew yelled down 'If it were vermin you think I would only tell you?'
'Alright I'll come up!'
The abbot walked up to the wall top, and looked down at the road.
'I can't believe it, in all my seasons, I've never seen a creature like it! I never even read about anything like that in the archives when I was abbey recorder.
Taffus looked at The abbot and asked him maybe Mari knew about them.
Mari was the badger mother of countless seasons, she was the daughter of a salamandastron king, and they say she and two score of the hares built a ship and sailed across the western sea... to the unknown land... and she did return, and it was alot like the land here, except it was bigger! MUCh bigger, and the creatures there were strange, they wore feathers in their fur, and lived in Grass huts.
well some of them, the others were pretty much just like themselves.
And when mari came back she decided to live the peaceful life and came to redwall to be the badger mother.
'The abbot knocked on the gatehouse door and woke her up from her sleep in a chair.'
'Mother Mari, do you know of creatures which wear strange clothes and have no fur on their faces.
'Sorry I haven't, you've been drinking Maplepine's burdock cider? Thast stuff is so old it probably made you see things...'
'I have not! I told Gragg to get rid of it, it has to be what 16 seasons his father made it! That stuff had gone sour longer then I can remember...'
Gragg Maplepine was the Cellarhog and was up on the wall with The Abbot and Mari, and Taffus seconds later, he was so intend on finding out what that creature was he forgot it was there.
Cody knocked on the wall not seeing the creatures above him, he saw a fuzzy thing up there earlier but it disappeared, and he was right at the door now and looking up, it hurt his eyes.
'Hello down there, I am the abbot what do you want here my son.'
'I am Lorby.' Said Lorby 'this is a Human named Cody, he comes from a far away land, and wants shelter here.'
'A human? I never heard of such a creature.' Gragg snorted.
'Well they must existed since this strange creature is right in front of us.' the abbot replied 'Are you vermin or woodlander?' He called down to Cody.
Taffus sneered at the abbot, 'if there's an otter with him he can't be vermin, seeing as if he was vermin, no otter would be seen hanging around with him'
'Unless he doesn't know himself' The abbot replied.
Lorby yelled up to them...
'You defy the word of an otter! My granny's tail, he's a nice creature if I ever met one...'
Cody told them he was not woodlander nor vermin he was a human, and he would never harm anyone, unless he was being harmed himself.'
The abbot understood and wanting to know more about the creature, he told them to open the doors and let them in.
