The Story of Reeve
A handsome red fox with bright honey eyes sat on a grassy knoll, smiling as he watched his younger brothers and sisters play by the lakeside. Brushing a few oak leaves off his blue jerkin, he peered through his chin-length black bangs at the sparkling water that surrounded Fort Whiteflower.
“Reeve, you seem troubled. What’s wrong my friend?” Reeve smiled broadly as his best friend, Blade, sat down beside him. Blade was a muscular young fox, with stone gray fur and long red bangs that hung over the left side of his face. He wore baggy black pants and a red sash, a shark tooth necklace swung loosely from his neck. His gray eyes looked his friend up and down, studying his face. Reeve looked back at him.
“I don’t know, I just feel like something’s going to happen. Ever since my mother died, I don’t know what to feel any more,” Blade shifted positions.
“Why don’t you talk to your father about it?” Reeve laughed and skipped a rock on the surface of the lake. It bounced four times before sinking gently to the bottom.
“Talk to that old warrior about it? Ha, I’d sooner eat my own tail. Mum’s took a big part of him away, he still doesn’t like to talk about her.” Blade nodded sympathetically and patter his friend’s shoulder.
“It’s probably nothing anyway. Why don’t we go take the boat out? It’ll keep your mind off this whole situation.” Reeve smiled and rose, dusting off his jerkin.
“I’d like that very much, my friend. To the boat!” The two foxes ran off along the shore of the lake, smiling happily and enjoying the summer day, unaware of the fate that lay ahead of them.
