Circuit Judge Nancy Donnellan has denied defense attorney Geoffrey Fieger's demand that she recuse herself from his client's murder case.

Since his client, Ralf Panitz, was convicted of murder last month, Fieger has filed numerous court documents. He has sued the local chief judge for slander, and then filed a broad-based motion last week demanding the right to question the 24 circuit judges under oath, the disqualification of the presiding judge and a new trial for Panitz.

In his motion, Fieger used his battle with Chief Judge Thomas Gallen as a reason why he needs to question all the judges for possible prejudice.

In her ruling denying Fieger's motion, Donnellan wrote: "The motion is facially insufficient because it fails to contain any allegations that the Defendant cannot or will not receive fair and impartial rulings on his pending motions or a fair and impartial sentencing hearing, but refers only to a 'possibility of prejudice.' "

Donnellan, who filed her order late Thursday, will sentence Panitz, 42, for second-degree murder on May 24.

Fieger hung up on the Herald-Tribune reporter who called him Friday for a comment about Donnellan's ruling.
