St. Pete attorney to represent judge

TALLAHASSEE -- The state has hired a St. Petersburg attorney to represent 12th Circuit Chief Judge Thomas Gallen in a lawsuit brought against him by Michigan attorney Geoffrey Fieger.

Jeffrey Goodis said he has started reviewing the lawsuit filed April 11 in Detroit.

Fieger, best known for representing "Suicide Doctor" Jack Kevorkian, filed the $1 million defamation suit after Gallen wrote a letter to the editor saying Fieger should be punished for calling two men who served on Ralf Panitz's jury "Nazis" and "creeps." Gallen's letter was published in the Herald-Tribune on March 30.

Fieger made the comments during an interview with the Herald-Tribune on March 27, the day after the Panitz verdict.
