Subject: c-not-of-c budget, smoke and shadows?

The c-not-of-c is working on its budget again. It is kind of confusing, I think it is meant to be confusing. It seems that they are simply rearranging things to make things look better. They say, �the budget will include Oblation, World Hunger, and special-project funds, including disciple and congregational leaders formation.�

The thing that strikes me is that very recently Steve Veazey shook the iron fist and let the priesthood members know that they had better pay their tithing. Probably the homosexual agenda is what many were objecting to and withholding contributions. All of a sudden contributions seemed to go up.

I am receiving some correspondence and messages that state the recent action of the World Conference to approve the counsel I brought to the church is mainly what is depressing tithing. That may be so. However, I want to be clear that as long as I am in the role, I will bring to the church my clearest perceptions of the mind and will of God.

A nonnegotiable for me is that I will not compromise vision, message, and the Spirit�s clear guidance in the face of threats from individuals that they will withdraw their financial support if they do not agree with church direction or certain decisions.

Steve Veazey says it again, "Another nonnegotiable for me is priesthood support of World Ministries Mission Tithes. Soon, we will put in place an administrative policy that will state clearly that we will not approve the ordinations of people whose understanding of the gospel and ordained ministry does not include awareness and support of the worldwide ministries of the church through tithing. We�ve had way too much drift in local congregations and mission centers on this matter."

Hey, guess what, I agree. Get out of the c-not-of-c. It is not worth it. What does it have to do with Jesus Christ? I say, nothing.

Mission-based Budget Brings Hope

The new budget clearly translates into Spirit-led hope. It springs from the growing numbers. It springs from opportunities to express generosity. And it springs from the mission initiative format that gives a direct voice to contributors.

That format represents a marked shift in how the church approaches budgeting and how members show generosity. Instead of focusing on what the church needs, the new budget lets people give based on their own sense of mission.

Yeah right! C-not-of-c leadership simply talks out of both sides of the their mouths. So, is giving based on the iron fist threat that the church will come down hard on the membership, or is it based on the spirit leading the membership, priesthood included, to give? That is the question. It can�t be both ways.
