Lois, the leadership expects tithing to be paid, because Joseph Smith, Jr. received revelations stating that the members of the Mormon church, founded in 1830,requires its members to tithe. Tell the NCC that the Community of Christ has nothing to do with the church founded by Joseph Smith, Jr. in 1830, and you pretty much knock the blocks out from under both tithing and priesthood.

The corrupt Jewish priesthood of the days of the Maccabees was similar. When outrages permitted by the priest Menelaus were formally presented, Menelaus paid off the authorities, and had the plaintiffs executed instead. That's how disiciplinary action in the CofC has functioned since the days of 156's implementation.

George

2 Maccabees 4:23-50

But Menelaus, because of the cupidity of those in power, remained in office, growing in wickedness, having become the chief plotter against his fellow citizens. 4:50
