Mega Man X was not given a costume, or any sort of disguise to hide his identity. He was easilly recognizable, but Doppler did not make any statements to the press about him. He was just announced into the arena as if he were "just another fighter."
When X entered the battle arena, he was given an immediate standing ovation. He hadn't even won the match yet, but the fans knew his reputation. He was very well respected, which made him smile. He waved back to the crowds. Vile had said that this was a fight to the death. He wasn't going to be able to reason with the opponents. Mega Man X was completely against violence. But, he knew when even his ethics needed to be overturned. This was such a situation.
Nine was the name, or rather the number of his opponent. A big, boxy looking Reploid, who up until now had no idea who he was fighting. When he recognized X, he boasted. "I'm so good they put me against X!", he muttered to himself.
The match began. X stayed on the defensive, while 9 tried to
blast him to bits. The crowd cheered as the match went on.
Doppler watched, alongside Vile, frowning in disapproval.
"Why did I let you talk me into this again?", He asked.
Vile let out a sigh of frustration. Doppler was an idiot.
"Remember what you told me about why you were having this tournament?", He asked in a nonchallant manner.
"Yeah, I said I needed the money for my next plan."
"So, why not put X in the tournament? Think of how much sales will go up? I'm not a bean counter. I'm a warrior. This crap doesn't concern me."
"Well it concerns me! I guess your point makes sense. But I have another question."
"What is it now?",Vile hissed in disgust. Doppler was really beginning to... "You are watching Mega Man X fight. X killed you twice! TWICE! And you just sit there as if you were watching golf on the holo-net. What gives?"
"This tournament sucks, you know that?", Vile seethed.
"Why do you say that? Think of what it represents?"
"Yeah, it represents how weak all of the contenders are! I want to join the tournament Doppler. I can't take the watching anymore."
Saber Wolf, who was sitting next to Vile began to take interest in what Vile had to say.
"Yes. I agree with him Master Doppler. Actually, alot of us seem to agree with him. Maybe we should join also?!"
"What? And have the bits blasted out of you? Not likely! I don't have the time, or the money to repair all of you. Besides, your time to prove yourself will come soon. All of you must watch Mega Man X with great interest. I have a feeling that once he gets wind of our plan, he will not be so happy with me."
"You expect him to challenge you directly? Here in your own city master?", Wolf asked.
"He did it before." Vile answered, "And we lost."
"Every enemy he's gone up against, he's destroyed. Even Sigma is no match for him.", Doppler added.
"So what do we do then Master?", Wolf asked.
"We find someone truly worthy to fight with him. Someone who can beat him."
"Who could this be? If he can destroy even Sigma, then who would you send against him?", Wolf persisted.
"I think I have someone in mind.", Doppler replied. "Actually, a few someones." ,he smiled. As he said this, 9 exploded, and Mega Man X was announced the victor. The ref held his hand up, and yelled, "Was there ever any doubt?"
"Doubt indeed...." ,X remarked. (to be continued)
