Subject: Um, Misterio? I think you are missing one or two major points, IMHO
In reply to: Misterio 's message, "Re: Jealousy = Love? In Scully's case, Yes!" on 09:15:42 06/02/00 Fri

You wrote = "Scully on the other hand is just along for the ride and helps Mulder when he needs her. Mulder's the only one that really investigates and follows any kind of lead he can find. So much so that people he doesn't even know come to him when they have strange cases, they never ask for Scully."

I seem to recall Scully's saying to Mulder that "without the FBI, the personal is all I have" in reference to their work. You seem to be agreeing with Jose Chung's assessment that all Scully is is just a clockpunching "government employee".

I will agree with you that Scully was originally intended to be some sort of "Girl Friday" with a medical degree. Given that DD was the known actor of the two, it is only natural that his character and his character's history would at first be the dominant one. However, GA's talents and charisma, along with the chemistry she and DD display, changed all that.

I really don't see DS and TLG's roles as being interchangeable - their areas of expertise don't exactly overlap.

You also wrote = "Besides, she wouldn't have had the guts to do what Mulder (who has nothing to lose), did when he got on that alien ship, so why bother with taking her?"

Mulder's going to the ship had nothing to do with courage - it was plain reckless stupidity - that, and great way to get rid of a character portrayed by an actor who had the temerity to demand his due! Scully has demonstrated her courage over and over again and so I am not going to bother to elucidate further on that one. She's got guts by the bucketful, if you will pardon that image...

I think he is in love with Scully. I can't imagine his giving up sister Samantha, the object of his quest, to secure Scully's safety. At the very least, you would think that he would take his sister over Scully since she is an FBI agent and therefore more expendable than a civilian like Samantha.

BTW, don't think that I am MulderBashing - I am an ardent Mulderist. I just don't think Scully is dismissable or replaceable - any more than Mulder would be.
