... or something like that from a soap opera opening. For all the fans that worry about the Xfiles turning soap opera-ish, this one really had that flavor to me.

Everyone here has such good opinions about this episode. They are interesting to read, since I have had something very strange happen to me about this episode that has never happened before. When I read a post telling all about the wonder of it and how brilliant it is, I think, yeah, and agree. Then I read a post stating all the opposite and I say, yeah, and agree. Has anyone else had problems of whether or not they liked the ep?

I like what you've said here, detoured. I would have said mostly the same things. But like hairytoes asked, what was the Xfile? There wasn't one, it was a study of Scully. Throwing in the crop circle stuff doesn't count. Maybe the "real" xfile is why Scully hasn't doubted her sanity after seeing this strange "guardian angel", and then seeing her turn into Mulder right in front of her. Why don't all these things bother her just as the song and message did in Signs and Wonders? Why isn't she questioning her sanity? Oh, I suppose she was disturbed and that's why she went back to Colleens home to visit with her. Why didn't she go see a priest? Hummm??
Anyone else would be having hallucinations, what with the girl and the Buddist temple experience, but Scully is having "visions".

Hairytoes mentioned that Scully's not the saint everyone had thought she was. Right on, hairytoes. I have wondered if this wasn't done, more or less, to make her more "human", to bring her down more to Mulder's level with the fans, esp. if these two are going to be brought together as things certainly seem to be insinuating. I had trouble with the 10 year old affair affecting Scully as it did too. Ten years is a way too long to be that affected that easily by an old flame, IMHO. If he had not shown up for her to realize she was over him and not the same person she had been, would she never have been able to discuss him with Mulder and/or realize Mulder is the one, as this ep seemed to imply? That's really a very weak characterization to me.

I agree too that the ep was a little too heavy-handed into GAs personal interests of gay rights and breast cancer awareness, and the new -age stuff. If Mulder had been with her would we have seen some eye-rolling from her instead, and some comment about the fire danger from candles? Anyhow, DD had his baseball episode, though. But he also managed to weave a very clever Xfile myth story, so I guess the two can't be compared. It's like you said, detoured, he is a writer so we expected something good. I agree GA's first attempt was also good. My biggest problem was that it wasn't x-filey enough, which I guess is pettiness on my part. oh well

Who was it that said the ep was like a rose - Ra-bid? That's a good way to describe it. I didn't mind the slo-motion like others did. I liked the way the sound tied in with the slo-motion, and the way the slo-motion alerted us to the time-expansion, or whatever it was called, that Scully was experiencing. I liked the use of the flashback, too. And using the song to tie it all together was good.

OK, I'm going to go out on a limb here. I've decided I didn't like the teaser. I've tried to keep up with all the conversations about it but it's impossible. They did or they didn't; guess we each interpret it as we see it, so unless there's some continuity to it - and I don't remember seeing anything in Brand X - to me it was nothing more that a "tease". I, like others, want a verbal expression of feelings toward one another. And not in some hospital bed, or a dream, or an alternate timeline, or drug induced - you know what I mean. Otherwise it's no more than a romp in the hay - getting their ya's-ya's out, and in such a nonchalant manner it _does_ makes one wonder if they've been doing it for a while, that is if, IF, anything happened in that bed.

A cut scene? With a picture of Phoebe?? You don't suppose that cut scene was cut because presumably everything burned or was damaged in The End, do you? So where's this picture of Phoebe been, hum? In Mulder's bedroom, you think, next to his bed maybe..? HA!

I really noticed Scully's statement about the crop circles phenomenon not being even remotely FBI related. It seemed really unusual for her to say that since so many things they go chasing after are even less remotely FBI related. That and the ignoring him and sarcastic Sat. bath statement, and Mulder's thinking I'm out of here, must be PMS!Scully. I do hope we don't see any more of that from her, esp. now since she's supposed to have this new awareness.

I'd better stop; this is way too long, sorry.

flip-flopping,
Chantal
