In reply to: hairytoes 's message, "Hi! Remember me? Want to talk about GA's ep? Huh, do you, do you, do you?" on 03:20:53 04/20/00 Thu

Hi HT!

I actually agree with a lot of your comments and you presented them well! I did like the ep a lot, but like you, I wasn't knocked out by it. Part of my liking it has to do simply with the fact that, in comparing it to a lot of other XF eps, it's better. I mean there have been some bad ones! And these were written by um...writers! Ans GA isn't a writer. As far as I know she doesn't write unlike DD. And I don't mean that as a slam against her. Only that DD is a writer and has written quite a bit so hsi first effort on TXF turning out well was more of a given. For a first effort from GA she did a good job and was probably under tremendous pressure.

I particularly liked her attention to what has gone before. We don't always get a clear image of these characters but we have gotten the idea that Scully seems have a weakness/attraction for older men. She talked about father figures in Never Again, she dated her intructor (Lazarus) and even the CSM made a comment about her and powerful men. SO GA took that idea and expanded on it. I also read something on the Official site about a different cut scene. It's still up there if anyone wants to look. There was a scene where Scully is looking closely at Mulder's bulletin board in his office and one of the things up there which GA chose herself was something that referred to Mulder's trist with Phoebe Greene. Now there's someone who pays attention to continuity! Most of the writers on the show don't seem to have heard of the word!

Now what I did have probelems with was the Daniel story. Like you said, was there really a big decision Scully would make regarding choosing Daniel over her life now? I don't think so. Orignally I thought I'd read this ep was to be about Scully's problems with working at the FBI, a larely male dominated occupation, and I still would like to have gotten tht story. This seemed to be another, "Scully has man problems" again. I liked the idea of Scully dealing with the past and wondering about choices but did we really need Daniel who apparently had been follwing her for the past ten years? I wonder if he ever ran into the guy from Milagro when *he* was following her?

I do think Mulder has more of a bearing on things than others have said. I think he was meant to guide her throughout this ep and that's why he turned out to be the woman at the end. I think Mulder does hav e alot to do with the chngs in Scully's thinking and he's influenced that which is why we see the Buddha statue under his fishtank. It shows that the two of them are alligned in their thinking. I'm not sure why the woman was the symbol in the first place but I like Rabid's idea of it being Melissa or Emily.

Speaking of...I caught a bit of The Blessing Way earlier and there's a part where Melissa is talking to Scully about being so close minded about things. What would she say if she'd seen Scully in this!? All Things certainly had Scully taking some leaps and since all of the new age stuff was very similar to Melissa's ways it would have been nice if Melissa's influence or at least an acknowledgement of her had come into play more.

Another thing that bothered me was that I felt like a lot of GA's own personal ideas were in the ep from what I've read about her so at times I jut felt I was waching GA showing them to us rather than Scully experiencing them.

I wasn't really bothered by the slowmo. Maybe a bit too much but I thought she took some interesting risks with her visuals and I liked a lot of her ideas.

det, who doesn't know if they slept together or not but is leaning toward No. A least I hope not! I agree, if they had, she wouldn't have left him!
