I think this will be a good show. I think many shows don't last as long as they could because the characters are either over explored or under explored. XF has suffered over the years from underexploration of it's characters but as you say the show was and should have been about one thing. Conspiracy, UFO's Samantha etc etc. But there is only so much of that that an audience can take.

I think after 7 years we need to know more about the characters. Not GA or DD but S and M. I think there has been just the right amount of character exploration over the years but now with the show ending and the MSR looming over everyone's heads I think it is high time to really get some character revelation going. Poor Mulder needs this most urgently but I don't know how they can do it seeing as CC has backed himself into a corner with that character by tying his development directly to the mythology of the show. Scully we have been luckier with and I really don't think this ep will be soap operish .But , hey, even if it is....

Soap operas have the biggest fan base and they go on and on and on and on. I mean the actors who play Alice Horton and her son Micky on DOOL have had a job for nearly 30 years. Whether the show is thought to be good or bad, it must be what people want otherwise it would have been down the tube along with it's mates long ago.

I don't think this ep of GA's will be soapy but if it is it won't ruin XF. XF has been in need of some variety for a while and although I was first disappointed at the changes, which I think haven't generally been for the better, the variety has been good if you view it for what it is. Variety. I'm sure we would have been complaining if they hadn't done something different by now.

I think these character exploratory eps are needed now because we know these characters and we expect more from them in terms of wanting to see and know their reactions, home life, ideals and expectations, morals values, history etc. I dont think GA and DD should be critically compared to eachother as far as their eps go. That would be like like comparing XF with Days of Our Lives. There isn't any comparison.

I love this show and I made a pact with myself a couple of years ago when I started to get little tinges of disappointment. I decided that although I may complain, I wasn't going to take myself or the show too seriously and I was just going to sit back an enjoy the ride. Especially now near the end. I want to enjoy it for what it is to the very end. And thus keep on loving it.

Stardoe, who thinks copious amounts of tolerance and open mindedness is the key to continual admiration of this marvellous show and the marvellous actors/writers that are part of it.
