I never read that story in school. Did you ever read The Lottery? That was a weird one!

I only saw about the last 15 minutes of the Alfred Hitchcock show. I don't know if they were doing a fairly close interpretation of the original book or a diffferent version. But in it there was a real paw too (or facsimile of one). In the big dramatic scene after the wife had wished her son back to life there's a knock at the door. The husband sees the son out the window (we don't though). He's horrified. The son was in a terrible car crash and he tries to keep his wife from answering the door. He tells her the accident was horrible and their son's face is gone. The wife doesn't listen and is going to answer the door which is being knocked on hard continuously. The husband frantically searches for the monkey's paw and wishes his son dead again. When the wife finally opens the door after having major problems with the locks (for dramatic effect!) there is no one there but some scarf on the ground. I don't know what that means since I didn't see it all.
