that the writers were trying to make a character who would have the same sort of passion for his job as Mulder did. I agree that loosing a son is similar to loosing Samantha, however his son's body was found and was the killer who was missing. In Samantha's case, both she and her abductors were missing.

His name Doggett is just a few letters off Dogged which described his focused, no-nonsense way of working on cases. I would have liked to see him continue with the show--Scully and Mulder could have been shadowy figures in the background who helped him and Reyes (I grew to like her) solve XFiles cases--especially missing persons. The show probably would have lost some of the humor generated by DD but then I think the writers could have added humorous tidbits when appropriate.

I think CC and 1013 just gave up.
