I've finally come into the cyber age and am now able to down load stuff off the net. I downloaded Sarah Jane Adventures a couple of months ago and boy was I impressed with myself. What a terrific show. My kids loved it as well. I have watched it over and over. Can't wait till the series. Can't see it coming here or at least not for ages.

I have downloaded Run Away Bride xmas special of DW and really enjoyed that. I have seen Smith and Jones, Shakespeare, Grid Lock and Daleks in Manhattan. All great shows in my book. So refreshing to get away from the Mr and Mrs Doctor show and back to the old exciting stories with more depth than last season where the stories were quite lame and predictable and were sacrificed in favour of the Rose/ Doctor dynamic. Not Dr Who at all.

I really like Martha. She is so natural and just an ordinary girl. She is open to the whole time travel thing and draws on her experiencs of movies and novels ie Harry Potter to make sense of it all which is probably what we would do. She has not lost her childhood quality and is genuinely in awe of the whole time travel thing. She's also very pretty but not up herself. She's a very realistic and likeable character and I'm looking forward to getting the whole season. I was not overly interested in the last 2 seasons and only started watching alot of S2 because SJ had been in it.

IN Shakespeare Martha does worry that she will be carted off as a slave because she is black but they overcome that by the Doctor brushing that off and telling her to walk around like she owns the place. He says that he's not exactly human and it works for him. Also there are a couple of black women walking along the Elizabethan street in regular clothes. DOn't exactly know what the status of black people was in those times in England but assume they would be Moores as they seem to be the only African people to ever venture northwards to europe. Not overly big on that part of history. Also it is odd that apparently Martha being black was a huge deal in england when they cast her and now you mention it. To be honest, I never gave it any thought. Being black seems to still have a stigma in England and the US.

I notice in this new series that RTD seems to make an issue of the blackness of Martha and there is a funny scene where Shakespear calls her all these names pertaining to her blackness. She is offended but realises that it is just the way of the times and country and he means no malice by it. In fact he admires her greatly. I also note that RTD makes a big deal of homosexuality with at least a reference per episode. One is even directed towards the Doctor and there are a couple of old women who are married in Grid Lock. I don't think statements need to be made but RTD seem to be really into political correctness and going out of his way to include such groups. I guess in this day and age it is natural and appropriate to include everyone but I hope it doesn't get too tokenistic.

I think this series is the best yet of the 3 new ones. I liked Rose but having her shoved down our thoats as the be all and end all of all companions and the love of the Dr's life was a bit much for me. In the past, companions were put out there and the audience got to make up their own minds as to what they thought of them and how much they liked them. If the companion seemed to be a bit of a fave with the doc then kudos to the clever writing and natural chemistry of the doc and companion. But although Rose would have been popular in her own right, I think they did her an injustuce by promoting her so much and hyping up the so called relationship, thus creating Rose-haters among the fans. IN light of this I still feel SJ was and still is the best companion, while still liking most of the others quite a bit. At least SJ got popular on her own without the prmotion and media hype of the PR department.

Hope you get to see all the eps soon BDM. Let me know what you think,.
