RTD is gay himself so that's why he's quite pro-gay. He is the creator of the show Queer as Folk which was a UK show & then an Americanized version was made for Showtime or HBO, a station in which anything goes.

I suppose being black in Shakespeare's time was OK cause you'd be pretty unique. But I do recall that in McCoy's era, Remembrance of the Daleks, we saw in 1963 London a sign saying "no coloureds" on a boarding house. Guess the American South wasn't the only place for that sort of thing. I'd say most UK shows I've seen over the years had little to no non-whites until recently while US shows at least started with token minority characters back in the 60s. Bill Cosby was the star of I Spy back then & the original Star Trek had blacks, Asians, Russians, etc. I would put the US way ahead of the UK on having non-white characters. We're got shows with all black casts or even all Hispanic casts now.

Sci-Fi channel gets the new DW season in July so I'll have to wait or get to my friend's house again but he's 3 states away & I only see him once in a blue moon. I'll get back to you on how I like it. Martha seems good, just leave out the family-please!
