Subject: I hate chain restaurants
In reply to: BDM 's message, "Re: Pizza chains, etc." on 10:37:33 07/06/07 Fri

I'm not talking fast food, though I'm not crazy about those. Except Dunkin Donuts they have the best coffee! I'm not a fan of Krispy Kreme, they taste like grease to me.

But chain restaurants like Applebees, TGI Fridays, Pizzeria Uno and the like, I really can't stand. Call me a snob if you must, but there are so many good independent restaurants that are so much better. At places like Applebees and TGI Fridays all of the food tastes the same, all of the decor is the same, ugh. I get that they are convenient sometimes, and that's cool, but I have a friend who's favorite restaurant is Applebees! EW! How is that even possible? The only chain restaurant I really like is Outback Steakhouse because seriously, they give you enough food to last three meals, and their steak is fantastic. But other than that, I try to avoid chain restaurants if possible. It's pretty easy since I live in the city limits and most restaurants that aren't sitting right in the Inner Harbor aren't chains.

Last night I went to this local restaurant called Regi's and had probably the best meal I've ever had. It's called Eastern Shore Pasta and it was linguini with an old bay/butter sauce, with whole shrimp, huge chunks of lump crabmeat, fresh tomatoes, and corn cut right off the cob. It was amazing. You won't find that at TGI Fridays.
