Well it all depends on who's doing the talking. To me, Elizabeth Hurley sounds extra sexy with the accent but Michael Caine not so much. Or Rene Zellweger has a sexy Texas accent while our president does not.

US accents get played down in alot of our shows. Many Boston set shows have almost no characters who sounds like Bostonians (Cheers, The Practice, Ally McBeal, Boston Legal, Wings is set in nearby Cape Cod). Or a southern set show has everyone do just the slightest hint of one but not go all the way with it. Movies try to be more accurate. Ever notice in films about ancient Rome that the Romans speak like upper class Englishmen?

I think I can tell the difference between English, Scottish, Welsh & Irish but no way could I tell Manchester from London. I'm told Rose spoke Estuary not Cockney. New York City has that same thing, neighborhood by neighborhood have variations.

Just saw the Shakespeare Code, that was very good. Have to watch it again as my wife wanted to talk about serious adult stuff while I was trying to watch! Thank God for VCRs.
